Ivory and Deep Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Saree with Kai Korvai Maanga Butta and Varisaipet Border
Ivory and Deep Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Saree with Kai Korvai Maanga Butta and Varisaipet Border
At the Detroit Diaspora Gala, this ivory KanchiPattu saree arrives carrying the Maanga butta in the silk-only language of pure craft — a saree that embodies the art of Korvai Kanchipuram weaving. Maanga buttas are woven across the ivory silk body in coloured silk thread — the Pattupet tradition, no zari.
The body is woven in warm ivory in smooth plain-weave pure mulberry silk with Maanga butta motifs in the Pattupet tradition. The border is woven in deep maroon ground with coloured silk thread bands in the Kai Korvai tradition — body and border woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom — with a Varisaipet structure of repeated woven lines. The deep maroon pallu continues with the full silk thread array.
