Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Chedi Butta and Korvai Magenta Border
Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Chedi Butta and Korvai Magenta Border
Shot colour peacock blue-green in Kanchipuram silk is one of those grounds that cannot be explained until it is seen — a body that shifts between deep teal, blue-green, and turquoise depending on the light and the drape, the two-tone silk creating an almost iridescent surface that is entirely unique to pure mulberry silk. This Kanjivaram is woven in the Varisaipet tradition. Each saree involves two separate weaving processes — the Korvai construction requires body and border to be woven on separate looms before structural interlocking. 10–14 days on the loom. Woven by our family's artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — read our story.
The shot colour peacock blue-green body carries Chedi Butta in gold zari — fine creeper and floral motifs (Chedi = creeper plant) woven continuously into the body field, each one small and precisely rendered, creating a sustained decorative rhythm that seems to float and shift with the body's colour movement. The deep magenta Korvai border — where body and border are woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom, the two silks becoming one fabric without stitching — arrives as a definitive colour statement. Dense Varisaipet gold zari bands add structural weight, and the full-gold pallu completes the saree at its highest ceremonial register.
Styling: Shot peacock blue-green and magenta is one of the most photographed Kanchipuram combinations. A magenta silk blouse picks up the border; a peacock blue-green blouse creates a bold self-colour body effect. Pair with antique gold or emerald-and-ruby set jewellery.
