Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Vairaoosi Saree with Kili Motifs

Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Vairaoosi Saree with Kili Motifs

Vermilion red silk is drawn through with fine Vairaoosi lines, giving the surface a quiet shimmer before the eye reaches the larger Kili motifs near the lower field. The compact bird motifs and richly woven end section bring a recognisably traditional Kanjivaram character to the otherwise disciplined linear body.

❖ 20 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

The Vairaoosi structure uses fine needle-like linear striping across the red silk, creating a close, ordered rhythm that catches light without turning the body into a dense zari field. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Gold zari border with clearly woven Yaanai motifs along the lower edge and fine traditional banding.

Pallu: Dense gold zari end section with a repeating geometric field and ordered border registers.

Styling: Let the red remain the centre of the look with a matching or deep maroon blouse and traditional gold jewellery. A long braid or low bun works well, while a neatly arranged pallu will show the dense gold field and the lower Kili and Yaanai details clearly.

A strong festive choice for Diwali, Karthigai Deepam gatherings, temple ceremonies, weddings and family celebrations.

What is Vairaoosi in this Kanjivaram saree?
Vairaoosi refers to the fine needle-like linear striping that runs across the body. Here it creates a close gold rhythm over the vermilion red silk without becoming a full zari grid.
Where do the Kili motifs appear on this saree?
Paired Kili bird motifs appear near the lower body, giving the disciplined Vairaoosi field a larger traditional figurative accent.
What is woven into the border?
The lower border carries clearly visible Yaanai elephant motifs in gold zari, framed by traditional bands. The pallu becomes denser with a repeating geometric zari field.
What blouse styling would suit this red Vairaoosi saree?
A matching red, deep maroon or antique-gold blouse keeps the styling traditional. Idam Living custom blouse stitching can also be selected through the current website service or promotional offer.
How should I care for the fine Vairaoosi zari surface?
Dry clean only, store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and do not spray perfume directly on the silk or zari. Refold periodically to avoid prolonged creasing in one place.
