Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Deep Indigo Rudraksham Border

Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Deep Indigo Rudraksham Border

Vermilion red and deep indigo meet in a sharply contrasted Kanjivaram colour pairing, bright through the body and grounded at the edge. Fine vertical zari lines run through the red silk, lending movement without making the field feel crowded.

The Rettapet structure gives this saree a firm traditional frame, while the fine vertical zari lines across the body create a restrained linear rhythm. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A deep indigo Rettapet border carries Rudraksham zari detailing, giving the bright vermilion body a dark, defined edge.

Pallu: The pallu becomes markedly richer, bringing together large Pavun zari motifs, Vanki patterning and a dense lattice structure in a layered traditional composition.

Styling: Pair with deep indigo silk and antique-gold jewellery for a direct continuation of the saree palette. A neatly pleated pallu will make the large Pavun motifs and lattice construction especially clear.

Well suited to Diwali, weddings, temple gatherings, cultural events, receptions and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What is Rettapet in this Kancheepuram saree?
Rettapet is the twin-register border treatment that gives the saree a distinctly framed edge. Here it is expressed in deep indigo against a vermilion-red body.
What is distinctive about the body?
Fine vertical zari lines run through the red silk, so the surface catches light in long, quiet intervals rather than through a dense all-over pattern.
What details appear on the pallu?
The pallu is substantially more ornate than the body, with large Pavun zari motifs, Vanki patterning and lattice work arranged in layered registers.
Can the blouse be designed in the deep indigo border colour?
Yes. Deep indigo would preserve the classic contrast, while a red blouse would create a more continuous look. Idam Living can design the blouse around either direction.
Why can pure Kanchipuram silk look different under indoor and daylight conditions?
Pure mulberry silk and zari respond strongly to changes in light. The vermilion, indigo and gold can therefore appear deeper or brighter depending on the setting.
