Teal Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chocolate Brown Twin Yazhi Motifs

Teal Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chocolate Brown Twin Yazhi Motifs

Deep teal green and chocolate brown make a beautifully grounded combination, with neither colour overpowering the other. The fine zari grid keeps the teal body luminous, while the brown border turns the gold deeper and more antique in character.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Zari Kattam structure lays a fine gold grid across the teal-green body, creating an ordered surface that becomes more visible as the silk moves. Twin Yazhi motifs appear as larger figurative zari accents among the smaller body details. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Dark chocolate-brown border with a broad warm-gold zari field, floral scroll register and fine geometric framing.

Pallu: Deep chocolate-brown pallu with a dense gold zari diamond lattice and an ornate vertical floral and figurative register.

Styling: A chocolate-brown blouse will make the border feel deliberate and architectural; a deep teal blouse keeps the silhouette quieter. Antique gold, temple jewellery or a single long haram will echo the dense pallu without competing with the Zari Kattam body.

Occasion: Well suited to Vijayadashami, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam, temple events, classical performances, winter weddings and formal family gatherings.

What is Zari Kattam on this Kancheepuram saree?
Zari Kattam is the fine zari-grid structure woven across the body. On this saree the gold grid sits over deep teal-green silk and becomes more visible as the fabric catches light.
Where do the twin Yazhi motifs appear?
The twin Yazhi motifs appear as larger gold zari accents within the body, standing out against the finer Kattam grid and smaller surrounding buttas.
Why does the teal and chocolate-brown combination feel so rich?
The teal brings a cool jewel tone while the dark brown grounds the saree. Warm gold zari connects the two, appearing brighter on teal and more antique against the brown.
Can the blouse be kept simple with such a detailed saree?
Yes. A plain chocolate-brown or deep teal blouse is an excellent choice because it lets the Zari Kattam body, Yazhi accents and dense pallu remain the focus. Custom blouse stitching is available through Idam Living.
Are tiny variations in the zari grid normal in handloom weaving?
Small variations in tension, alignment or yarn joins can occur in a handwoven saree. They are different from actual damage or a significant weaving defect, which is handled separately during quality control.
