Silver Ash and Rani Pink Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree

Silver Ash and Rani Pink Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree

The silk is a beautiful silver-ash grey, like Kanchipuram granite after a light rain. Seen in folds, its sheen moves from pale dove grey to deeper graphite, while sparse small gold-zari motifs gently warm the cool field.

A very distinctive multi-stripe border: slender gold-zari zigzags and tightly set bands in green, rani pink, plum and bronze-gold, finished by a strong forest-green edge. The colours are layered rather than loud, as in an old temple corridor painted anew.

The traditional Seer pallu is rich rani pink with long gold-zari lines and more densely patterned ornamental bands. The pink pallu contrasts elegantly with the slate-silver body.

Woven by hand in a lighter, fluid pure silk Kanchipuram construction, this saree preserves the expressive traditional handwoven zari vocabulary of Kanchipuram. The lighter feel makes the drape especially wearable while the silk retains its characteristic lustre and poise.

Styling: A rani-pink, deep forest-green or gold brocade silk blouse; delicate gold earrings and a single cuff would keep this sophisticated.

Wear it to: Temple events, classical-music gatherings in Margazhi, festive lunches, receptions, and family occasions.
