Sandalwood Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Peacock and Elephant Motifs

Sandalwood Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Peacock and Elephant Motifs

The softness of sandalwood ivory makes a lovely setting for a vivid Vadamalli-magenta and forest-green Korvai border, bright with the small stories of Kanchipuram motifs.

❖ Each fold here holds roughly 20 days of patient loom work, handwoven in Kanchipuram district by artisan weaving families.

Woven in the Korvai tradition, A quiet, creamy sandalwood-ivory silk body carries evenly spaced small handwoven gold-zari bird and elephant-inspired motifs; the Mayil (peacock) and Yaanai (elephant) figures are finely articulated against the open silk ground. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A contrasting Vadamalli-magenta pink border woven with elaborate gold-zari ornamental bands, peacock and elephant motifs, and a dark forest-green register carrying warm copper-gold figurative and geometric work.

Pallu: A grand saturated magenta pallu filled with closely set ornamental zari panels and rhythmic gold motifs.

Styling: Choose a deep forest-green silk blouse with narrow gold piping to pull out the darker border, or a muted rose blouse for a softer reception look. Antique-gold temple jewellery and a long pleat arrangement allow the magenta and green to frame the ivory.

Frequently bought together

What distinguishes a Korvai Kanchipuram saree?
Korvai describes the traditional joining of contrasting body and border sections. The distinct colour junction is an important part of its woven identity.
Which traditional figures appear in this saree?
The photographed body and border show handwoven Mayil (peacock) and Yaanai (elephant) zari motifs. They appear at a restrained scale on the ivory body and in fuller decorative registers along the border.
What makes the magenta and green border especially striking?
The strong contrast between warm ivory, rich Vadamalli pink and forest green defines the edge. Ornamental gold-zari panels carry peacock and elephant forms, offering detail without overcrowding the ivory body.
Can you suggest a blouse for this ivory Korvai?
Yes. Forest green, magenta or a softer ivory-toned blouse would each highlight a different part of the Korvai design. Discuss your preferred neckline and sleeve length with Idam Living.
Are small variations normal in handwoven silk?
Minor differences in thread tension or small yarn joins can be natural features of handweaving. Actual damage, stains or significant flaws are not simply handloom variation.
