Royal Indigo Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Thogai Mayil Rettapet Border

Royal Indigo Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Thogai Mayil Rettapet Border

This is the blue of evening just before the sky turns dark, charged with the radiance of silk. Against the Neelam-toned body, each Mayil Chakram glows softly; peacock green appears near the pallu like the shadow of a leaf under lamplight.

❖ This saree was woven over 18 days on the loom in Kanchipuram, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by weaver families whose craft has been passed down for generations.

The Rettapet framework brings a pair of richly figured gold border bands to this saturated blue saree. Small Mayil Chakram buttas are scattered through the body, giving the dense Neelam colour room to breathe. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Gold zari draws a repeated Thogai Mayil plume rhythm across the twin border registers. Deep peacock-green silk provides a subtle second colour at the pallu-side contrast, creating a layered blue-and-green effect rather than a stark colour break.

Pallu: The generous pallu moves between slim zari stripes, fine patterned columns and a wide dense band of ornamental work. All of it sits against the deep blue field, so the gold reads almost like illuminated calligraphy.

Styling: A dark peacock-green blouse with elbow sleeves brings out the secondary colour, while antique gold jewellery picks up the zari. For a temple visit, gather the pallu neatly over one shoulder; for a music concert, let the striped pallu open and show its full pattern.

Occasions: Appropriate for Vijayadashami celebrations, Diwali poojas, classical concerts and wedding receptions.

Frequently bought together

How does Rettapet appear in this royal blue saree?
Two gold zari registers form a layered border rather than a single narrow edge. The repeated feather-like Thogai Mayil ornament gives those registers their distinctive surface rhythm.
What is the body motif?
Small Mayil Chakram buttas are spaced across the royal indigo-blue silk. Their relatively modest size leaves the blue field prominent, while the pallu carries the more densely worked zari.
Is there green in this blue saree?
A deep peacock-green accent is visible alongside the blue and gold at the pallu side and selvedge. It is intentionally quieter than the royal blue body, adding depth without changing the primary blue impression.
What blouse would you pair with the blue-and-green combination?
A peacock-green blouse is an especially natural match, while indigo or antique gold would create a more monochrome or ceremonial look. Idam Living offers custom blouse stitching and can work from your measurements and inspiration references.
Can slight differences between handwoven pieces occur?
Small differences in yarn tension, individual motifs and handloom finish can occur in handwoven silk. These should not be confused with actual damage, stains or significant defects, which merit separate attention.
