Cherry Red & Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Ganga Jamuna Korvai Saree with Veldhari Weave
Cherry Red & Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Ganga Jamuna Korvai Saree with Veldhari Weave
A beautiful expression of Kanchipuram colour, this handwoven silk brings together the warmth of rose red, the cool luminosity of peacock blue and the golden brightness of marigold yellow. The combination is wonderfully alive, recalling the colourful temple festivals and intricately painted architectural details of old Tamil Nadu.
❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu by artisan weaver families who have practiced this craft for generations, using Silk Mark certified pure silk.
The rose-red body is enriched by an intricate Veldhari weave, with fine emerald-green and mustard-gold silk-thread lines travelling across its surface. These delicate stripes create a beautiful rhythm, bringing subtle colour variation and texture to the luminous red silk. The closely arranged threads introduce an extraordinary sense of movement, allowing different hues to emerge as the saree catches the light.
The Korvai border is especially striking. Woven in the traditional Ganga Jamuna arrangement, the contrasting edges explore two distinct colour stories: a richly worked peacock-blue border and a luminous golden-yellow border. The blue carries the changing colours of a peacock feather, with cool blue-green undertones and fine Mayil Kann ornamentation. The golden-yellow edge brings a warm ceremonial brightness, creating a dramatic contrast to the red body.
The pallu is a remarkable study in colour and intricacy. Its silk carries a beautiful shot-colour effect, shifting between shades of emerald green and peacock blue, with blue remaining the dominant tone. This subtle interplay of two colours lends the silk an almost iridescent appearance, like the changing shades of a peacock's plumage.
Across this richly coloured field, gold zari creates an elaborate composition of peacocks, Paisleys, floral Kodi and Mayil Kann patterns. The motifs are arranged in precisely ordered ornamental panels, with repeating geometric details and intricately worked gold zari borders. Each little motif contributes to a beautifully unified composition, giving the pallu its magnificent richness.
The contrast between the finely striped red body and the richly woven blue-green pallu is especially memorable. There is both vibrancy and discipline to this saree: a bold celebration of colour, guided by the precision and restraint of traditional Kanchipuram weaving.
Styling note: Beautiful with a peacock-blue silk blouse, a golden-yellow contrast blouse or a classic red blouse with antique-gold jewellery. A striking choice for Diwali, Karthigai Deepam, festive temple gatherings and wedding celebrations.
