Raspberry Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Peacock Teal Zari Border

Raspberry Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Peacock Teal Zari Border

Raspberry red gives this Kanchipuram its depth, while a peacock-teal edge cuts through the warmth with the clarity of polished stone. Across the body, petite gold zari buttas appear at an easy rhythm, leaving enough silk visible for the colour itself to remain luminous.

❖ Handwoven over 16 days on the loom in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Certified pure silk, woven by artisan families who support their weaving village.

Woven in the Butta tradition, the body is scattered with small gold zari motifs rather than being densely filled, allowing the raspberry-red silk to remain calm and expansive. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A beautifully small peacock-teal border frames the red body with a compact register of gold zari motifs. Its scale keeps the saree light in appearance while giving the edge a distinctly Kanchipuram finish.

Pallu: The pallu moves fully into peacock teal, where fine zari lines, geometric bands and a richly woven central section create the strongest visual moment of the saree. The cool blue-green against raspberry red makes the pallu especially striking when opened across the shoulder.

Styling: Pair it with a peacock-teal blouse or keep the blouse close to the raspberry body for a quieter composition. Antique gold earrings, fresh jasmine and an uncluttered drape will let the small zari buttas and the contrasting pallu carry the look.

Especially suited to Diwali celebrations, Karthigai Deepam, winter weddings, temple gatherings, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What does Butta mean in this Kanchipuram saree?
Butta refers to the individually woven motifs scattered across the silk body. Here, the petite gold zari motifs are spaced deliberately so the raspberry-red silk remains visible between them.
What makes the colour combination distinctive?
The warm raspberry-red body is framed by a cool peacock-teal border and pallu. The contrast is strong, but the narrow border keeps it visually balanced rather than heavy.
Is the pallu more elaborate than the body?
Yes. The body remains relatively quiet with small zari buttas, while the peacock-teal pallu carries denser geometric zari bands and detailing, creating a clear visual finish.
Can Idam Living design a blouse using the teal from this saree?
Custom blouse stitching is available with the current Pure Silks offer. A blouse can be developed around the teal and red colour relationship while respecting the overall character of the saree.
Are slight variations normal in a handwoven Kanchipuram?
Small changes in yarn tension, motif placement or handloom texture can occur in genuinely handwoven silk. These natural variations are different from actual damage or significant defects.
