Radiant Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Rettapet Mayil Border
Radiant Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Rettapet Mayil Border
Violet here is not a single flat shade: it moves between the depth of oodha silk and the fleeting brightness of orchid petals. The narrow orange edge strikes through the colour like the last ember of sunset, with gold zari catching light all along the pleats.
❖ Woven by hand in Kanchipuram over 18 days on the loom, a piece of a centuries-old weaving tradition, made with certified pure silk.

The Rettapet arrangement gives this violet Kanchipuram its double-register framing in golden zari. The body has widely spaced Mayil Chakram buttas, so the violet silk remains uninterrupted enough to show the play of orchid and lilac notes. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The paired zari bands are enriched with repeating Thogai Mayil feather-plumage forms, bordered by narrow gold lines and a broad violet interval. At the outermost edge, a vermilion-orange selvedge sets up a particularly striking contrast.
Pallu: The pallu unfurls into layered columns of zari: broad figured stretches, slender stripe arrangements and smaller geometric bands. Against the saturated violet, the different gold widths give movement and scale without obscuring the colour.
Styling: A vivid violet blouse with an orange piping detail would echo the selvedge, while a muted antique-gold blouse would keep the pallu in focus. Choose traditional gold earrings for Diwali or a light gold choker and slick bun for a winter reception.
Occasions: Fitting for Vijayadashami, Diwali festivities, cultural evenings and wedding receptions.
