Peacock Neck Blue Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Varisaipet Saree with Peacock Buttas and Zari Border

Peacock Neck Blue Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Varisaipet Saree with Peacock Buttas and Zari Border

A blue-green silk that recalls the changing light on a peacock feather, shifting between turquoise water and leaf-green as it moves. Petite gold peacock buttas punctuate the body before the border begins its ordered song of blue and gold.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, this saree places petite gold zari peacock buttas across a luminous Mayil Kazhuthu, or peacock-neck, blue-green body. The silken shot effect gives each fold a slightly different colour, from teal to green with fleeting hints of royal blue. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The Varisaipet border interweaves silk threads and gold zari into a procession of elegant rows. Stylised bird and Yaanai elephant motifs appear amid floral bands, framed by deeper blue and green stripes for a distinctly Kanchipuram finish.

Pallu: The pallu carries a richly woven, almost brocade-like gold zari field, with closely ordered geometric textures and ornate floral bands. Its abundance of gold provides a luminous close to the softly changing blue-green body.

Styling: Keep the blouse in peacock blue, emerald green or simple antique gold, depending on which colour you wish to bring forward. Delicate gold studs, a low bun and a clean drape give the little buttas room to catch the light.

A beautiful option for Diwali celebrations, temple gatherings, receptions and classical-music evenings.
