Pastel Orchid Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Ivory Zari Border

Pastel Orchid Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Ivory Zari Border

Pastel orchid pink gives this Kanjivaram the softness of bougainvillea petals washed in morning light. Tiny Mayil Chakram buttas glint across the body, then the colour falls away into ivory cream, where the border and pallu become increasingly intricate with warm gold zari and ordered lattice work.

❖ This piece took 16 days on the loom to weave in Kanchipuram — handwoven by artisan families whose generational skill keeps this heritage tradition alive.

Woven in the Butta tradition, the pastel orchid pink body is kept deliberately open so the small handwoven Mayil Chakram zari buttas can punctuate the silk without overwhelming it. The ivory-cream contrast border and pallu bring a different visual density through their richer zari work. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Ivory-cream contrast border with ornate gold zari registers and traditional woven motifs. The warm zari gives the pale cream edge a softly burnished finish against the pastel body.

Pallu: Ivory-cream pallu with richly worked zari bands and a detailed grid-lattice field. It is intentionally more detailed than the body, creating a luminous, ornate finish over the shoulder.

Styling: An ivory blouse keeps the saree serene, while a tonal orchid-pink blouse makes the colour feel more contemporary. Pastel French-knot embroidery in pink, cream and muted gold can be worked lightly at the sleeves. Finish with pearl-gold earrings, a low bun and a compact pleat for an elegant festive look.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

How do the Mayil Chakram buttas appear on this pastel pink body?
The buttas are small and deliberately spaced, so they read as tiny points of gold across the orchid-pink silk rather than as a dense pattern. The open ground keeps the pastel colour visually calm.
Why does the ivory pallu look richer than the body?
The body relies on spaced Mayil Chakram buttas, while the ivory-cream pallu carries denser zari ornament and a fine grid-lattice structure. That contrast gives the shoulder end a noticeably more ceremonial presence.
Can this saree work for both daytime and evening events?
Yes. The pastel orchid body feels fresh in daylight, while the gold zari and detailed ivory pallu give it enough depth for receptions, festive dinners and evening cultural gatherings.
Would pastel French-knot embroidery work on the blouse?
Yes. A custom ivory or tonal orchid blouse with restrained French-knot embroidery would suit this saree particularly well. Keeping the embroidery small and spaced allows the handwoven pallu to remain the focal point.
How should I care for the zari and pastel silk?
Dry clean only. Store the saree folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and avoid spraying perfume directly onto the silk or zari.
