Pastel Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Ivory Zari Border

Pastel Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Ivory Zari Border

Soft leaf green meets ivory cream in a composition that feels like the first new foliage against pale jasmine. Small Mayil Chakram zari buttas punctuate the pastel silk with restrained points of gold, while the contrast border leads into an ivory pallu whose dense zari work becomes the saree’s luminous centre.

❖ Woven in Kanchipuram over 16 days on the loom, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by artisans who have handed this craft down through generations.

Woven in the Butta tradition, the pastel leaf green body is kept deliberately open so the small handwoven Mayil Chakram zari buttas can punctuate the silk without overwhelming it. The ivory-cream contrast border and pallu bring a different visual density through their richer zari work. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Ivory-cream contrast border with finely ordered gold zari bands and ornate traditional woven motifs. The warm zari gives the pale cream edge a softly burnished finish against the pastel body.

Pallu: Ivory-cream pallu with dense ornate zari bands and an intricate grid-lattice field. It is intentionally more detailed than the body, creating a luminous, ornate finish over the shoulder.

Styling: Keep the palette airy with an ivory, soft green or muted gold blouse. A custom blouse with tiny pastel French-knot embroidery at the sleeves or neckline would echo the delicacy of the body without competing with the pallu. Antique-gold studs, jasmine and a neat pleated drape would keep the look polished.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What makes this a Butta Kanchipuram saree?
The body is intentionally kept open and is punctuated with small Mayil Chakram zari buttas rather than covered with a continuous all-over weave. That spacing lets the pastel leaf-green silk remain visible and gives the saree a lighter visual rhythm.
What is the main visual highlight of this saree?
The contrast between the pastel green body and the ivory-cream border and pallu is the defining feature. The pallu carries denser ornate zari bands and a fine grid-lattice field, so the shoulder treatment becomes richer than the body.
What occasions suit this pastel green and ivory combination?
Its calm palette works especially well for daytime weddings, temple gatherings, Navratri and Dussehra events, Diwali lunches, classical performances and family ceremonies. The gold zari gives it enough presence for formal occasions without making the colour story feel heavy.
How would you design a blouse for this saree?
An ivory or tonal pastel-green blouse would keep the look cohesive. For a softer handcrafted detail, Idam Living can create a custom blouse with delicate pastel French-knot embroidery placed sparingly along the neckline or sleeves.
Are small variations normal in a handwoven Kanchipuram?
Yes. Tiny changes in yarn tension, motif placement or joins can occur in handloom weaving and are part of the handmade process. Actual stains, tears or significant weaving defects are separate issues and should not be treated as normal handloom variation.
