Zari Kattam builds a disciplined grid into the field of silk. In paaku brown, these minute checks catch the light like a fine lattice of gold, before opening into the broader green-and-gold ornamental language of the pallu. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Clear parrot-green silk border with broad woven gold ornamental panels and repeating floral-geometric motifs.

Pallu: A richly woven kili pachai green and gold-toned pallu with circular medallions, diagonal geometric fields and large figurative ornamental registers, finished with green silk tassels.

Styling: A plain leaf-green blouse draws the kili pachai pallu into the outfit, while a paaku-brown blouse makes the gold checks feel especially warm. Wear with small antique-gold jewellery or a single long chain, and allow the elaborately worked green pallu to fall without heavy additional embellishment.

Frequently bought together

What does Zari Kattam look like in this paaku-brown Kancheepuram saree?
Zari Kattam means a fine woven zari grid. Here the gold-toned checks sit closely together on reddish paaku-brown silk, creating a warm, textured gleam rather than isolated larger buttas.
Is the green pallu woven more richly than the brown body?
Yes. The brown body is built around a small repeating grid, while the kili pachai green pallu carries broader gold ornamental fields, circular medallions and geometric detailing.
What does kili pachai mean?
Kili pachai is a traditional Tamil colour name for parrot green. On this saree the bright green provides a lively counterpoint to the deeper, betel-nut brown body.
Could I order a plain blouse to let the zari stand out?
A simple brown or green blouse would work particularly well with the detailed silk. Idam Living also offers custom blouse stitching, so you can share your measurements and design references for a more tailored finish.
Are small differences in the handwoven zari grid normal?
Minor variations in yarn tension or joins can be natural characteristics of handloom silk. Stains, tears and significant structural damage are different matters and should be raised with Idam Living for review.
