Orchid Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Vairaoosi Saree with Kamalam Border
Orchid Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Vairaoosi Saree with Kamalam Border
A flowering orchid at the brightest hour of the day, caught between rose light and a violet glimmer. Fine threads of zari draw a disciplined shimmer across this orchid pink Vairaoosi silk, before the softer petal pink border introduces its measured procession of lotus blossoms.
❖ 20 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

The Vairaoosi tradition is recognised by its fine, closely spaced, needle-like lines, here giving the vivid orchid pink body a delicate movement of light rather than a heavy checked effect. Mayil and Yazhi motifs appear between these slender filaments, bringing a quietly traditional rhythm to the luminous silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The petal pink border is distinguished by beautifully etched Kamalam lotus motifs. Each bloom shows clearly separated petals within a gold zari register, held between smaller, closely worked ornamental bands. This layered framing makes the lotus forms feel almost like a carved relief.
Pallu: A diagonal lattice unfolds across the petal pink pallu, each intersecting line enclosing delicate floral zari detail. More intricate geometric and floral bands gather at the edges, creating an elaborate counterpoint to the finer Vairaoosi lines in the body.
Styling: Let the orchid pink remain the focus with a petal pink blouse and fine gold earrings, or introduce deep aubergine for a more contemporary contrast. An open-neck blouse with a clean sleeve line, a sculptural gold bangle and a neat braid keeps the lotus zari border unmistakably visible.
Occasion: A radiant choice for forthcoming Navratri celebrations, Diwali evenings, classical dance recitals, family gatherings and wedding receptions, particularly where the light catches the narrow zari lines.
