Orchid Lilac Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Varisaipet Saree with Gold Zari and Leaf Green Accents

Orchid Lilac Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Varisaipet Saree with Gold Zari and Leaf Green Accents

An evening garden just as the light turns violet: soft orchid-lilac silk glows with rose-gold warmth, while an emerald leaf-green edge brings the richness of a shaded grove. Tiny gold glints are scattered over the body, allowing the broad traditional border to do the quieter, more intricate work.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, its border unfolds in successive fine and broad registers rather than a single uninterrupted strip. Across the orchid silk, minute gold geometric buttas add sparkle without obscuring the colour. The rose and antique-gold tones resemble the last sunlight on Kanchipuram temple stone. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A generous Varisaipet arrangement of stacked, handwoven gold-zari registers. Delicate meandering floral tracery, peacock-like ornamental bird forms, and narrow linear separators give the rose-violet border its measured rhythm; a dark leaf-green selvedge provides the unexpected final edge.

Pallu: A lustrous lilac-rose pallu with an extensive gold-zari field of close geometric lattice, patterned panels, and fine parallel bands; the green accent and violet silk tassels are visible along the fold.

Styling: Pair it with a bottle-green silk blouse or a restrained blouse in antique rose. A pair of uncut-style gold earrings, fresh jasmine and a low bun bring out its classic mood; a neatly arranged pallu reveals the gold bands beautifully without asking for heavy jewellery.

Occasions: Well suited to Diwali gatherings in November, intimate wedding ceremonies, temple visits and evening classical music recitals.

Frequently bought together

What makes the border of this orchid-lilac saree Varisaipet?
Varisaipet uses a succession of border registers. Here, narrow gold dividers and wider ornamental bands build a layered frame around the lilac silk, with a dark green finishing edge.
Are the little gold motifs placed across the lilac body or only at the edge?
Small geometric gold-zari buttas are spaced across the lilac body. The more elaborate floral and bird-form ornament is concentrated in the broad, stacked border.
What colour blouse would complement the emerald-green accent?
A deep leaf-green blouse picks up the edge, while muted rose or antique gold gives a more tonal result. The silk can be styled for Diwali gatherings, a family ceremony or an evening recital.
Can Idam Living help me plan sleeves for this broad border?
Idam Living offers custom blouse stitching and can discuss sleeve length, neckline and the overall balance of your chosen design. The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece in emerald green.
Is this a pure silk saree and how should I store it?
Idam Living is a Silk Mark authorised user, and the saree is listed as pure mulberry silk. Dry clean it and keep it folded in soft muslin, away from sunlight and perfume. Silk Mark speaks to the silk, not to a particular border design.
