Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Magenta Kamalam Zari Border

Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Magenta Kamalam Zari Border

Deep Neelam blue carries a violet cast that shifts beautifully against the vivid magenta border. The body remains calm and jewel-toned, while broad kamalam zari bands and the saturated pallu bring the saree into full festive colour.

❖ Woven in Kanchipuram over 18 days on the loom, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by artisans who have handed this craft down through generations.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, the strong contrast border gives the blue-violet body a precise frame. Alternating mayil and chakram zari buttas are placed across the silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Vivid magenta Rettapet border with broad gold zari kamalam medallion bands and fine linear framing.

Pallu: Magenta pallu with malli moggu zari stripes, narrow ornamental lines, a dense gold lattice panel and leaf-edged detailing.

Styling: A magenta blouse makes the border feel continuous, while deep blue keeps the look more restrained. Antique gold, temple jewellery or kemp stones work especially well against the blue-magenta contrast.

What does Rettapet add to this blue Kancheepuram saree?
Rettapet gives the saree a strongly defined edge. The deep blue-violet body is framed by vivid magenta, so the contrast remains visible even when the saree is pleated.
What motifs are woven on the body?
The body carries alternating mayil and chakram gold zari buttas, spaced against the deep Neelam blue-violet silk.
What is distinctive about the border?
The magenta border carries broad kamalam medallion bands in gold zari, framed by fine linear details that keep the large lotus forms crisp.
What does malli moggu refer to on the pallu?
Malli moggu refers to jasmine-bud inspired detailing. On this pallu it appears in repeated zari registers alongside finer lines and a denser gold lattice panel.
Can this saree be styled with temple jewellery?
Yes. The saturated blue and magenta palette takes antique gold, temple jewellery and kemp stones particularly well.
