Woven in the Kanchi Kattam tradition, A jewel-box arrangement of substantial Kanchi Kattam silk checks: squares of emerald and leaf green, bright yellow, sky blue, berry pink, warm coral, ivory and cocoa brown alternate like a finely arranged box of coloured stones. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 28 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Contrasting Kathiripoo violet silk with Rettapet-style double-register gold-zari ornamental bands; a slender row of steeply pointed Pillayar Reku-inspired serrations introduces the broad lower border.

Pallu: Grand violet silk pallu with an ordered delicate gold-zari checked geometry and lustrous ornamental zari bands.

Styling: Balance the coloured checks with a plain Kathiripoo-violet blouse, or take one quietly repeated tone such as teal or cocoa brown. Small gold earrings and clean pleats let the many-coloured body read as one composed pattern, especially at cultural performances or festive dinners.

What does Kanchi Kattam mean?
Kanchi Kattam is the traditional silk-check arrangement woven into the body. In this saree, several silk colours are organised into regular squares, creating a lively jewel-box effect.
What colours form the jewel-box checks?
Emerald, fresh green, yellow, teal, sky blue, coral, pink, ivory and brown-toned squares appear in alternating arrangements. Their balanced repetition is the character of this saree.
How are the Rettapet and Pillayar Reku details used here?
The violet border has two decorative gold-zari registers in the Rettapet tradition, joined visually to the checked body by pointed, Pillayar Reku-style edging. The main saree classification remains Kanchi Kattam.
What blouse would balance the many colours in this saree?
Yes. A plain violet, teal or chocolate-toned blouse would keep the visual balance. Idam Living can discuss a custom blouse design and measurements with you.
Does the saree include a blouse piece?
The standard Idam Living Kanchipuram saree length is 6.3 m, including an approximately 0.8 m running blouse piece. Its exact colour and decoration have not been separately shown here.
