Maragatham Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Ivory and Orange Ganga Jamuna Borders

Maragatham Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Ivory and Orange Ganga Jamuna Borders

The green of new leaves after rain meets a golden mustard gleam in this vintage Kanchipuram silk. Ivory settles softly along one border while festive orange blazes along the other, like morning light moving through temple courtyards.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 18 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Rettapet double-border treatment frames a shot-colour green body, where green silk shifts towards golden mustard as the fabric turns to the light. Handwoven gold-zari peacock and Kamalam lotus buttas punctuate its fluid surface without crowding the colour. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The Ganga Jamuna pairing joins quiet ivory silk and vivid orange in two contrasting borders. Gold zari enriches the ivory bands while the orange has a bright, marigold-like intensity. The Rettapet registers give both edges the strong layered definition of vintage Kanchipuram.

Pallu: The pallu unfolds in luminous ivory-and-gold bands with elephants (Yaanai) in repeated procession, followed by a close lattice of zari. Its architectural sequencing has the calm grandeur of the carved corridors of Kanchipuram.

Styling: Try an ivory blouse for a gentle, heritage-led look or orange silk to pick up the bolder Ganga Jamuna edge. A traditional oddiyanam or antique-gold necklace and a jasmine-adorned braid will suit the richly patterned pallu.

A distinctive vintage choice for family ceremonies, Vijayadashami prayers, Diwali celebrations and temple occasions.

Frequently bought together

How does the green and golden mustard shot colour change in light?
The body is woven with a double-shot effect, so the green takes on a warmer golden-mustard cast at different angles while remaining recognisably green.
What is Ganga Jamuna in this Rettapet saree?
Ganga Jamuna means the two borders deliberately contrast in colour. Here, one border is ivory and the other is brilliant orange, both given classical layered Rettapet detailing.
Which motifs appear in its pallu?
The pallu has repeated Yaanai elephant figures within gold zari bands, leading into a dense zari lattice, a distinctive complement to its peacock and Kamalam body buttas.
What blouse could I choose for this saree?
The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece, and Idam Living also offers custom blouse stitching. Try an ivory blouse for a gentle, heritage-led look or orange silk to pick up the bolder Ganga Jamuna edge.
What makes this handwoven Kanchipuram saree an heirloom choice?
Its Rettapet weave was worked by hand in Kanchipuram, with around 18 active days on the loom in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing. The pure silk, carefully worked motifs and finished pallu are made to be cared for and worn over many years.
