Manjal Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Vairaoosi Saree with Navy Peacock Varisaipet Border

Manjal Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Vairaoosi Saree with Navy Peacock Varisaipet Border

A bright turmeric-yellow silk against the deep blue of a Kanchipuram evening sky: this contrast feels as spirited as a festival morning. The fine Vairaoosi body remains light in visual character, while the broad navy edge gathers the heritage motifs together.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 20 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Vairaoosi gives this pure silk body closely spaced, needle-like lines that animate its clear manjal-yellow colour. Small chakram and peacock buttas are spaced across the yellow ground, so the pattern reveals itself gradually between the contrasting navy borders. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The navy Varisaipet border is arranged in carefully repeated silk-thread and zari registers. Peacocks sit inside arched compartments, joined by Vanki Pet angles and fine Muthu Seer pearl-like rows, like successive carved mouldings around a temple mandapam.

Pallu: A deep Neelam-navy pallu carries bands of yaanai elephants, maanga paisleys and tightly ordered lattice-grid zari. Its repeated registers continue the architectural rhythm introduced in the border.

Styling: A midnight-blue blouse draws the eye toward the woven border, while an understated yellow blouse lets the body remain the focus. Try antique-gold jhumkas and a simple braid; carry the pallu openly across the shoulder to display the peacock arches.

Occasions: A vivid choice for Vijayadashami, Diwali celebrations, music recitals and festive family gatherings.

What gives this yellow Kanjivaram its Vairaoosi appearance?
The yellow body is woven with closely ordered, needle-fine Vairaoosi lines. Chakram and peacock buttas interrupt that fine rhythm, while the much broader navy Varisaipet border provides a deliberate contrast.
What do Vanki Pet and Muthu Seer mean on the border?
These are traditional decorative terms for border detailing. Here angled Vanki Pet forms and small pearl-like Muthu Seer rows sit alongside peacocks framed in arches within the repeated silk-and-zari border bands.
How does the navy contrast affect the finished drape?
The dark Neelam-navy edging defines the pleats sharply against the turmeric-yellow body. Across the shoulder, the navy pallu brings the elephant, paisley and lattice patterns into greater view.
Can I choose a navy blouse instead of the running blouse?
The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece. Idam Living can discuss a navy contrast-blouse design or custom stitching using your preferred styling direction; fabric availability and details should be agreed before stitching.
How should I protect the zari when storing this saree?
Dry clean only, fold in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and refold periodically along different creases. Avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk or zari.
