Manjal Turmeric Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Small Zari Border

Manjal Turmeric Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Small Zari Border

Manjal yellow and gold sit almost in the same register here, creating a saree that seems to hold its own light. Petite zari buttas appear softly across the turmeric-coloured silk, while the border stays deliberately small before the pallu opens into a much denser field of gold.

❖ This saree carries 16 days of loom work behind it, handwoven in Kanchipuram by artisan families continuing a generations-old craft.

Woven in the Butta tradition, the Manjal body carries a fine scattering of small leaf-like zari motifs. Their scale is deliberately restrained, allowing the warm silk ground to breathe. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The border is beautifully small, almost a line of molten gold against turmeric silk, with a fine green edge that sharpens the finish without interrupting the calm monochromatic body.

Pallu: The pallu is where the zari becomes expansive. A dense diamond field is layered with narrow ornamental registers and floral detailing, creating a gold-on-gold surface that changes gently as the silk moves through light.

Styling: A deep green blouse will pick up the fine selvedge and give the Manjal body a traditional contrast. Antique gold jewellery and jasmine are enough. Keep the drape clean and let the luminous self-toned pallu remain the strongest element.

A beautiful choice for Diwali, Karthigai Deepam, temple ceremonies, wedding mornings, Margazhi gatherings and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What gives this Manjal saree its understated look?
The body uses very small zari buttas with generous silk visible between them, while the border is kept unusually narrow. The richness is concentrated in the pallu rather than spread evenly over the saree.
What colour is Manjal?
Manjal is the Tamil word commonly used for turmeric yellow. Here it appears as a deep warm yellow with a soft golden cast from the silk and zari.
What is special about the pallu?
The pallu stays within the same warm colour family but becomes considerably richer through a dense diamond field and layered zari bands. The effect is luminous rather than high contrast.
What blouse would you recommend?
A deep green blouse would create a traditional contrast and echo the fine green edge. A tonal Manjal blouse would give a more uninterrupted gold-and-yellow composition.
Is this saree Silk Mark certified?
Yes. Idam Living is a Silk Mark authorised user, and this Pure Silk Kanchipuram listing uses the Silk Mark certification treatment established for the collection.
