Mango Yellow and Rose Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Purple Gold Border

Mango Yellow and Rose Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Purple Gold Border

Mango yellow at its sunniest, rose pink as tender as a fresh pattu roja, and orange like the last warmth of evening. The colours sit in little handwoven squares that change their arrangement with every gathered pleat.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 32 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Kanchi Kattam gives this saree its measured playfulness. Mango yellow, soft peach-orange, pink and purple are woven into a disciplined grid, while the meeting of coloured threads creates shaded checks that seem to glow and recede as the silk turns. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 32 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A deep purple border anchors the bright body. Above its patterned gold ground are closely woven floral shapes, generous circular botanical forms and a delicate serrated edge, creating the richness of traditional Kanchipuram ornament without disturbing the rhythm of the squares.

Pallu: The pallu is a quiet counterpoint in purple and antique gold. Dense patterned fields alternate with slim linear registers and flowing floral ornament, so the warmth of the gold becomes more prominent once the saree is draped.

Styling: A plain rose-pink blouse picks up the gentler checks, while deep violet makes the border the centrepiece. Add small temple-style gold earrings and soft pink flowers. Let the pallu fall in wide folds so its woven textures can be seen without losing the checks at the waist.

Frequently bought together

How does Kanchi Kattam make these mango-yellow and pink squares?
Kanchi Kattam is a traditional silk check weave. The yellow, pink, orange and purple threads form a repeating grid, with softer blended tones where the colours visually cross.
Which details give the purple border its richness?
The broad purple border has densely woven gold decoration, including rounded floral forms, closely ordered lattice-like texture and small repeated blossom details.
Will the rose-pink and mango-yellow checks look different once draped?
As the pleats overlap, different bands of pink, orange, yellow and purple come forward. The contrast with the rich dark border also becomes more apparent.
Can Idam Living stitch a minimal blouse for this detailed saree?
A plain rose-pink or deep-purple blouse would keep attention on the silk checks. Idam Living can discuss a simple custom blouse with your chosen sleeve length and neckline.
Why might the exact check spacing vary a little in handloom silk?
Minor differences in alignment and yarn tension are natural possibilities in handwoven work. Tears, stains and meaningful defects are separate quality concerns and should not be treated as ordinary handloom variation.
