Lavender Purple Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Zari Kattam and Elephant Zari Border

Lavender Purple Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Zari Kattam and Elephant Zari Border

Lavender-purple silk takes on a luminous, almost jewel-like glow here, its cool Kathiripoo character crossed with fine gold Zari Kattam and softly scattered woven buttas. The body remains ordered and delicate before opening into a broad, richly worked elephant border and an unusually radiant gold pallu.

❖ Twenty-one active days on a Kanchipuram loom, plus dyeing, threading and finishing, are woven into this saree.

The Lightweight Kanchipuram construction keeps the silk easier in weight while preserving a distinctly traditional visual vocabulary. Fine gold lines form an ordered Zari Kattam across the lavender body, punctuated by petite woven zari motifs. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 21 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The broad border is the visual anchor, with a repeated procession of handwoven elephant motifs in warm gold zari framed by fine geometric bands and a dense diamond-textured zari field.

Pallu: The pallu becomes considerably richer than the body, moving into a densely woven antique-gold field with fine geometric texture and layered ornamental registers. Against the lavender-purple silk, the gold takes on a particularly warm radiance.

Styling: Pair it with lavender, deep purple, antique gold or a quiet olive blouse. Traditional jhumkas or temple jewellery are enough without overworking the look. A low bun with jasmine and an open shoulder pallu will let the elephant border and gold field remain clearly visible.

Beautiful for Navratri celebrations, Dussehra, Diwali, weddings, receptions, temple gatherings, classical arts events and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What makes this a Lightweight Kanchipuram?
It retains the Pure Silk Kanchipuram weaving character and traditional zari detailing in a lighter construction designed to feel easier to drape and wear. Lightweight refers to the construction and weight, not to reduced silk purity.
What creates the fine checked effect across the lavender body?
Fine gold zari lines cross the body to create a delicate Zari Kattam grid. Petite woven zari buttas sit within this ordered structure, giving the lavender silk small points of metallic light.
What makes the border especially distinctive?
A repeated procession of clearly woven elephant motifs forms the central ornamental register, surrounded by fine geometric bands and a dense antique-gold zari field.
How would you style this lavender Kanchipuram for a festive event?
A tonal purple, antique-gold or subdued olive blouse works beautifully. Traditional earrings, a low bun and an open pallu allow the elephant border and richer gold weaving to remain the strongest visual elements.
Does this saree come with a blouse piece?
Yes. A 0.8 m running blouse piece is included. Please refer to the product images for the blouse piece colour and design.
