Kumkum Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Korvai Saree with Royal Blue Thogai Mayil Zari Border

Kumkum Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Korvai Saree with Royal Blue Thogai Mayil Zari Border

Kumkum red against saturated royal blue is pure old-Kanchi drama, bright, assured and deeply traditional. Flecks of warm gold and magenta sharpen the contrast, while the open red body keeps the extraordinary border from becoming visually heavy.

❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This saree spent 20 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

Woven in the Korvai tradition, the red body and contrasting royal-blue border are structurally defined as separate colour sections, giving the transition its characteristic clarity. Mayil Chakram zari buttas are placed across the body, bringing small points of gold into the brilliant field. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The highlight is a broad yesteryear-style border in royal blue and gold. Sweeping Kodi Malar vines frame dancing Thogai Mayil, their peacock forms surrounded by scrolling foliage and narrow magenta and zari registers. It feels wonderfully characteristic of an older, richly ornamented Kanchipuram vocabulary.

Pallu: The pallu is deliberately grand, carrying the visual weight of the border into a dense and richly worked gold-zari finish. It is the part of the saree designed to become fully expressive over the shoulder.

Styling: A royal-blue silk blouse will emphasise the Korvai contrast, while Kumkum red creates a more continuous ceremonial look. Antique-gold jewellery, jasmine and a neatly pleated shoulder drape keep the styling traditional and allow the Thogai Mayil border to remain fully visible.

A striking choice for Navratri, Vijayadashami, Diwali, temple celebrations, wedding ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What makes this a Korvai Kanchipuram saree?
Korvai creates a clearly defined contrast between the body and border. In this saree the brilliant Kumkum-red body moves into royal blue with the strong colour separation associated with traditional Korvai weaving.
What are the motifs on the red body?
The body carries Mayil Chakram zari buttas, placed with enough space around them for the red silk to remain luminous.
What makes the border feel particularly vintage?
The broad Kodi Malar vine work and dancing Thogai Mayil are arranged in a richly ornamental old-Kanchi manner, framed by narrow magenta and gold registers.
Can Idam Living design a blouse around the royal-blue border?
Yes. Royal blue is the strongest contrast choice, while Kumkum red creates a more continuous traditional look. The custom blouse can be developed around either direction.
Is this saree Silk Mark certified?
Yes. It is handwoven in Pure Mulberry Silk and carries the Silk Mark assurance used for Idam Living's pure silk Kanchipuram collection.
