Kumkum Red Floral Jaal Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Grand Gold Peacock & Yazhi Border

Kumkum Red Floral Jaal Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Grand Gold Peacock & Yazhi Border

A vivid, auspicious red recalling kumkum at a Kanchipuram temple and the vermilion glow of lamps at a festive threshold. In shifting light the silk reveals warmer scarlet and copper-red undertones. Handwoven gold floral jaal travels across the body in a rhythm of full-petalled, chrysanthemum-like blossoms, leaves and fine curling creepers. The gold seems to bloom from the red rather than simply sit upon it.

❖ Artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram spent 16 days at the loom on this saree, handwoven in certified pure silk.

This handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram brings together the bold silhouettes of South Indian temple imagery and the luxuriant floral jaal associated with Banarasi design. A study in contrast, its ornate zari work gives the saree a richly ceremonial character without confusing the textile traditions from which its influences are drawn. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A bold temple-worthy expanse of lustrous yellow-gold zari sits beneath two richly ornamented motif tiers: peacock forms, mythical Yazhi and floral scrolls build a stately, layered border. The gleam and generous ornamentation recall the romance of Banarasi brocade, yet the silhouette and emblematic motifs speak distinctly in the language of Kanchipuram silk.

Pallu: The grand red-and-gold pallu carries tightly worked zari grids, fine parallel zari lines and elaborate peacock-and-Yazhi panels. Its changing density, from closely laid lines to wide ornamental bands, gives the pallu the presence of a woven ceremonial tapestry.

Styling: Pair with a vivid red or antique-gold brocade blouse; a rust-gold silk blouse can make the palette feel especially sumptuous. Keep the sleeves elbow length or longer with fine zari edging, and bring out the gold with a classic haram, jhumkas or a single beautifully proportioned temple necklace.

Occasions: A glorious choice for bridal trousseaux, wedding muhurtham guests, Deepavali gatherings, Karthigai Deepam, traditional family ceremonies and festive temple celebrations. Red and gold feel especially appropriate when an occasion calls for unmistakable festivity.

What makes this Kanchipuram saree distinctive?
The kumkum-red body carries an all-over gold floral jaal, while its broad double-tier border features peacock, Yazhi and floral motifs. The ornate pallu combines a traditional zari grid with heritage motifs.
Is this a Banarasi saree or a Kanchipuram saree?
It is a Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree. The densely woven floral jaal and lavish brocade-like border are Banarasi-inspired design influences, not a claim that the saree was woven in Banaras.
What are the body, border and pallu details?
Body: A vivid, auspicious red recalling kumkum at a Kanchipuram temple and the vermilion glow of lamps at a festive threshold. Its changing density—from closely laid lines to wide ornamental bands—gives the pallu the presence of a woven ceremonial tapestry.
How would you style this saree?
Pair with a vivid red or antique-gold brocade blouse; a rust-gold silk blouse can make the palette feel especially sumptuous. Keep the sleeves elbow length or longer with fine zari edging, and bring out the gold with a classic haram, jhumkas or a single beautifully proportioned temple necklace.
What care does this handwoven silk need?
Professional dry cleaning is recommended. Store in a clean breathable cotton or muslin wrap, refold occasionally and keep away from prolonged direct sunlight. Subtle handloom variation is a characteristic of weaving, not automatically a defect.
