Kesari Orange and Sky Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Purple Gold Border

Kesari Orange and Sky Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Purple Gold Border

A little square of kesari orange, another of open-sky blue, then rose pink, marigold yellow and lavender. The Kanchi Kattam body reads like a sunlit festival street, colour following colour in a precise handwoven rhythm.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 32 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Kanchi Kattam turns saturated orange, blue, yellow, green, lilac and pink into a field of small squares. The contrasts are deliberately bright, yet the checked order keeps them balanced. As the folds change direction, one colour gives way to the next and the silk seems to move before the wearer does. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 32 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A broad aubergine-purple border offers a darker counterweight to the checks. Rich gold woven flowers, circular botanical roundels and close-set geometric textures run along its length, with tiny pointed details tracing the upper edge.

Pallu: The deep purple pallu gathers the gold into an elaborate finale. Fine parallel bands sit beside wider ornamental registers, woven floral flourishes and a dense gold ground that grows warm under the light.

Styling: Keep the blouse plain in deep aubergine for a composed look, or choose sky blue to echo the crispest squares. A narrow gold bangle stack and simple drop earrings are enough. Gather the pleats carefully, leaving the richly woven purple pallu long and fluid over the shoulder.

Frequently bought together

Why do the orange and sky-blue squares look so vivid together?
Kanchi Kattam arranges several strong silk colours into evenly ordered checks. Kesari orange, blue, yellow, pink and lilac sit beside blended crossing tones, producing a clear sense of rhythm.
What appears in the elaborate purple border?
The dark-purple border features dense antique-gold weaving with repeated flowers, circular botanical forms, small edge details and compact geometric fields.
Does the pallu have the same multicolour checks?
The pallu changes to deep purple and gold, rather than carrying the full bright body grid. Slim gold lines sit alongside wider patterned registers and floral ornament.
Would a sky-blue blouse or a purple blouse suit this saree?
Sky blue would echo a bright colour in the body; deep purple would connect more closely with the ornate border. Idam Living can discuss custom stitching and help refine a blouse silhouette.
How do I care for the gold-patterned silk after an event?
Air the saree briefly in shade after wearing, and dry clean only when cleaning is needed. Fold it in soft muslin, keep it out of direct sunlight and avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk.
