Kathiripoo Violet and Kumkumam Red Rettapet Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree

Pure mulberry silk is woven here in a classic Rettapet composition, with paired borders of layered bands running along both edges of the saree. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. Read our story.
Border: Broad Rettapet borders in vermilion red carry layered gold-zari floral and circular ornamental bands, framed by fine geometric edges. The red selvedge draws a precise line along the silk.
Pallu: The contrast pallu opens into a generous field of red and antique-gold zari, with disciplined lengthwise stripes and richly worked bands. The effect recalls temple lamps glowing against the dusk.
Styling: Pair with a plain kumkumam-red pure-silk blouse, slim gold bangles and antique jhumkas; for a more contemporary look, choose a high-neck purple blouse and one sculptural gold cuff. It suits Vijayadashami pujas and temple visits, Diwali gatherings, Karthigai Deepam, winter wedding ceremonies and Carnatic music concerts.
