Kathiripoo Lavender Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Purple Zari Border

Kathiripoo Lavender Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Purple Zari Border

Kathiripoo purple gives this saree the softness of a flower petal held in evening light. The body remains open and luminous, punctuated by petite gold zari motifs, while the compact deeper-purple border quietly prepares the eye for a pallu that is far more intricate.

❖ Woven in Kanchipuram over 16 days on the loom, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by artisans who have handed this craft down through generations.

Woven in the Butta tradition, small gold zari motifs are placed across the Kathiripoo body in an alternating rhythm of rounded floral medallions and petite geometric forms. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A compact deep-purple border carries finely woven floral and geometric zari detailing, keeping the framing narrow and elegant while adding a precise line of gold around the lavender body.

Pallu: The pallu becomes the visual centre of the saree. Dense zari forms a repeating lattice field, bordered by multiple ornamental registers with floral and figurative detail. Its richness is especially effective because the body itself remains relatively quiet.

Styling: Pair with deep aubergine, violet or a tonal Kathiripoo blouse. Antique gold earrings and a low bun with jasmine will complement the traditional zari without competing with it. Keep the pallu broad to show the lattice and layered registers in full.

Well suited to Diwali evenings, Karthigai Deepam, winter weddings, Margazhi cultural gatherings, ceremonies and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

Why is this saree classified as a Butta Kanjivaram?
The body is defined by individually woven zari motifs spaced across the silk rather than by an all-over structural weave. The small motif scale lets the Kathiripoo colour remain visible.
Are all the body motifs identical?
No. The body shows an alternating rhythm of small rounded floral medallions and petite geometric zari forms, which gives the surface a subtle variation without making it busy.
Why does the pallu appear much richer?
The body is intentionally sparse, while the pallu concentrates the zari into a dense lattice and layered ornamental bands. That contrast gives the pallu a strong visual finish when draped.
What blouse colours would work with this saree?
Deep purple, aubergine or a tonal lavender would all sit naturally beside the Kathiripoo body. Idam Living can also develop a custom blouse around the saree under the current Pure Silks blouse offer.
How should I care for the zari?
Dry clean the saree, store it folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight and avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk or zari.
