Jewel Multicolour Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Aubergine Floral Gold Border

Jewel Multicolour Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Kanchi Kattam Saree with Aubergine Floral Gold Border

A festival of colour held within the order of a Kanchipuram loom. Turmeric yellow, emerald, teal, sunset orange, ruby red and flower-purple sit side by side in small, lively squares, then meet the calm depth of an aubergine border.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 32 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Kanchi Kattam body is a study in precision and abundance: bright checks of yellow, green, teal, orange, red, purple and pink, each one clear enough to stand on its own. Where their threads cross, nuanced secondary shades lend the silk the movement of a painted bazaar street after rain. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 32 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Deep aubergine-purple holds a generous gold-woven border. Floral roundels, neat rows of tiny blossoms and closely worked lattice-like geometry build a rich surface, while a narrow pointed gold edging traces the join with the checked field.

Pallu: In the pallu, the colour grows dusky and the gold more expansive. Long woven bands, interlocking textures and curling ornamental foliage create a warm metallic glow against the dark purple silk.

Styling: Let the checks do the talking with a solid aubergine blouse, antique-gold studs and a simple twisted bun. A turmeric-yellow blouse gives it an exuberant festive character. Carry the pallu open so the floral gold work balances the many colours in the body.

Frequently bought together

Why is this Kanchi Kattam saree so richly multicoloured?
The checked silk brings together several thread colours rather than repeating only two. Turmeric yellow, green, teal, orange, red, pink and purple give the little squares their lively colour shifts.
What design appears on the aubergine border?
The deep purple border has dense antique-gold woven decoration, including floral roundels, tiny floral rows and a tightly ordered lattice-like field.
Does the pallu continue the bright squares?
The pallu changes the mood of the saree. Instead of the brightly checked body, it is primarily aubergine purple with extensive gold weaving, decorative bands and scrolling ornamental details.
Would a plain blouse work better with these many colours?
A solid deep-purple blouse allows the multicolour checks and gold border to remain the focus. Idam Living can discuss a custom blouse in a colour drawn from the body if you prefer stronger contrast.
How should I store this richly woven silk?
Dry clean only, then store the saree folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight. Refold periodically and avoid spraying perfume onto the silk or decorative weaving.
