A jamun-purple body structured by fine Zari Kattam, with gold chedi buttas spaced across the surface so the silk looks lit from within. Handwoven by artisan weaving families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. Read our story.

Border: A broad zari border carrying traditional paisley maanga, yaanai, mayil, arai maadam and muthu seer, framed by lustrous gold bands and an emerald-green selvedge.

Pallu: A grand varisai pallu layered with sona-rupa silver and gold zari work, including ornamental motif bands that heighten the ceremonial presence of the saree.

Styling: A purple blouse with antique-gold accents or a deep green blouse to echo the selvedge would both sit beautifully with this saree.

How is this Zari Kattam different from a plain body?
The body is not plain. It is built with a fine all-over zari grid, which gives the jamun-purple silk a denser, more light-responsive surface.
What are the buttas on the body?
The body carries chedi buttas, woven in gold zari and spaced across the grid so they stand out cleanly.
Are silver and gold both used in the pallu?
Yes. The pallu carries a sona-rupa effect, meaning both gold and silver-toned zari contribute to the layered visual richness.
Which traditional motifs appear in the border?
The border uses a classic Kanchipuram vocabulary with paisley maanga, yaanai, mayil, arai maadam and muthu seer.
What is the selvedge colour?
The saree is edged with an emerald-green selvedge, which gives the purple-and-zari composition a crisp finishing line.
