Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Rose Pink Selvedge

Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Rose Pink Selvedge

Like the soft light on a Kanchipuram temple courtyard at daybreak, this warm ivory silk glows quietly until the zari catches the eye. A slender rose-pink edge, as vivid as a hibiscus petal, sets off the delicate kamalam blooms and gold geometry.

❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This saree spent 16 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the warm, pearl-toned ivory body is structured with a fine, radiant Zari Kattam grid that lends a restrained shimmer rather than an unbroken metallic surface. Small kamalam lotus buttas are spaced evenly across the silk, each one a precise glint of gold. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Yaanai elephants, mayil peacocks and vanam-inspired woodland flourishes appear in an ornate gold-zari register. Fine horizontal Veldhari zari lines extend below it in a measured Varisaipet band arrangement; the narrow, bright rose-pink selvedge gives the ivory a striking finish.

Pallu: A broad gold-lit woven pallu carries dense floral and geometric zari detailing, with narrow linear registers tying it back to the ordered border bands.

Styling: For Navaratri gatherings, Deepavali poojas or an evening classical music concert, pair the ivory with a deep rose silk blouse, antique-gold jhumkas and a low jasmine bun. Alternatively choose an ivory blouse with rose piping so the slim selvedge remains the single bright note.

What is Zari Kattam in this ivory Kanchipuram saree?
Zari Kattam refers to a fine grid of zari woven through the silk. On this ivory body it creates a delicate shimmer while leaving the little kamalam lotus buttas clearly visible.
How does the rose-pink selvedge change the look of the ivory silk?
The slender rose-pink finish draws a crisp line along the gold-bordered edge. When the saree is pleated, that small flash of colour adds contrast without overwhelming the ivory.
Would this saree be suitable for a daytime temple gathering?
Its ivory ground is luminous in daylight, while the decorative gold border keeps it ceremony-ready. A rose or ivory blouse and restrained gold jewellery work particularly well.
Can Idam Living stitch a blouse with a rose-pink detail?
Yes. You can discuss a made-to-measure blouse and request rose-pink piping, sleeves or another detail inspired by the saree edge. Send your measurements and preferred neckline or reference images.
Is the silk on this saree Silk Mark certified?
This pure mulberry silk Kanchipuram saree is offered as Silk Mark certified, and Idam Living provides a link to its Silk Mark authorised-user certificate. Silk Mark concerns silk authenticity, not the artistic motifs.
