Ivory Pastel Veldhari Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Royal Purple Yaanai Rettapet Border
Ivory Pastel Veldhari Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Royal Purple Yaanai Rettapet Border
There is an extraordinary delicacy to this Kanchipuram. Its softly luminous ivory silk carries the gentlest colours of a spring garden: tender green, pale rose and the quiet warmth of gold. Like the pastel-painted details of an old South Indian temple ceiling, these colours appear in beautifully measured arrangements, lending the saree a rare softness and refinement.

The body is an intricate composition of silk-thread peacock and Kamalam motifs, accompanied by delicate Veldhari zari weaving. Fine ornamental lines travel across the ivory silk in an exceptionally disciplined rhythm. Every little detail has been given its own space, allowing the coloured silk threads and delicate gold accents to create an almost architectural pattern.
Thirty-nine days on the loom went into the making of this saree. An extended period of meticulous handweaving, reflected in the intricacy of its surface and the beautifully considered relationship between body, border and pallu.
The contrast arrives in a magnificent royal purple, the colour of a richly dyed Kanchipuram silk. The traditional Rettapet border is ornamented with Yaanai motifs enclosed within elaborate floral framing. Each elephant is woven into a richly detailed gold zari arrangement, creating a graceful procession along the border. A lovely contrast to the tender colours of the body, the purple brings depth and grandeur without disturbing its delicacy.
The pallu reveals the true splendour of the weave. Among its intricate ornamental gold zari bands appears an unusual and wonderfully evocative composition of Yaanai on a chariot with Yazhi motifs. The elephant, chariot and mythical Yazhi recall the sculptural vocabulary of South Indian temples, where processions, fantastical creatures and ceremonial forms have been celebrated for centuries. Fine geometric zari fields and richly worked ornamental bands complete this magnificent pallu.
There is an unmistakable old-world charm to this saree. The serenity of ivory, the freshness of pastel silk threads, the depth of royal purple and the grandeur of traditional Kanchipuram motifs come together in a composition that feels both rare and timeless.
Styling note: Beautiful with a deep royal-purple blouse, antique-gold jewellery and an understated hairstyle. A particularly meaningful choice for temple ceremonies, Vijayadashami, Diwali and treasured family celebrations.
