Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Varisaipet Saree with Arakku Border

Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Varisaipet Saree with Arakku Border

Like jasmine laid beside a freshly polished temple lamp, this ivory Kanchipuram silk holds its light quietly before the Arakku maroon and antique-gold border gives it a ceremonial edge.

❖ Woven by hand in Kanchipuram over 16 days on the loom, a piece of a centuries-old weaving tradition, made with certified pure silk.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, the saree places fine gold Kalam-shaped paisley buttas across a calm ivory field, allowing the layered border to carry the ornament. The contrast recalls the deep-red lacquer and glowing brass of old Kanchipuram temple streets. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Deep Arakku maroon, built in stacked Varisaipet registers of gold zari with Mayil Kann peacock-eye details, pointed Thazhampoo Reku, Rudraksham rows and woven peacock motifs.

Pallu: An expansive Arakku maroon pallu where gleaming gold grid compartments carry chakra-like circular medallions, joined by densely worked peacock and floral registers and finely measured zari stripes.

Styling: Choose an Arakku silk blouse with a narrow gold sleeve edge, or an antique-gold blouse for a softer contrast. Temple jewellery, small jasmine strands and a clean, carefully arranged pleat allow the broad border and richly detailed pallu to remain in view at a Navratri gathering or a family ceremony.

What is Varisaipet in this ivory Kanchipuram saree?
Varisaipet describes the ordered rows of ornament that form the border. Here the stacked gold registers stand out against the quiet ivory silk, creating a recognisably traditional Kanchipuram frame.
What are the motifs on its ivory body and Arakku border?
Small gold Kalam-shaped paisley buttas are spaced across the ivory body. The maroon border layers Mayil Kann peacock-eye ornament, pointed Thazhampoo Reku, Rudraksham rows and peacock motifs.
Is this ivory and Arakku saree suitable for daytime ceremonies?
The pale ivory body is gentle in daylight, while the maroon-and-gold border supplies definition. An Arakku blouse and restrained gold jewellery make it especially lovely for a family wedding morning or temple visit.
Can Idam Living design a blouse to echo this border?
Idam Living offers custom blouse stitching. You can share your measurements and preferred neckline or sleeve references and request a design that draws on the Arakku and antique-gold colour palette.
How should I protect the gold zari while storing it?
Dry clean only, then store the saree folded in soft muslin, away from direct sunlight. Change the folds periodically and avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk or zari.
