Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Varisaipet Saree with Arakku Mughal Floral Zari Border

Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Varisaipet Saree with Arakku Mughal Floral Zari Border

An ivory ground as quiet as newly opened jasmine, framed by the red of lacquered Kanchipuram woodwork. Across it, ornate floral buttas bloom with the measured spacing of a formal garden; along the edge, gold brocade gathers into a richly worked border.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Varisaipet structure organises the border into successive bands, while the ivory body carries distinctive Mughal-inspired floral zari buttas. The decorative vocabulary borrows the density of Banarasi-style brocade but the saree remains a handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Arakku-red bands of silk and zari are enriched with ornate Mughal floral brocade. Their repeated registers build a lush decorative frame against the pale silk, recalling the contrast between pale stone courtyards and intricately carved screens.

Pallu: The Arakku pallu develops the floral language into a trellis set within a fine zari lattice grid. Close geometric repetition gives the red-and-gold surface a deep, jewel-like finish.

Styling: An Arakku blouse gives an elegant tonal continuation of the border, while a warm ivory blouse keeps the composition softer. Consider pearl drops with antique gold settings and a low chignon; carry the densely patterned pallu in broad, flat folds.

Occasions: A considered choice for wedding receptions, Diwali evenings, family milestones and formal cultural celebrations.

Frequently bought together

Is this an authentic Kanchipuram silk or a Banarasi saree?
This is a handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree. Its border has Mughal-inspired floral brocade reminiscent of Banarasi decorative traditions, but that visual influence does not change the saree’s Kanchipuram identity.
What distinguishes the floral buttas on the ivory body?
The buttas have an ornate floral, Mughal-inspired arrangement rather than a simple dot or small paisley shape. Set apart on the ivory silk, they give the body detail without filling every space.
What is the trellis design on the Arakku pallu?
A trellis is a repeating framework around ornamental forms. Here it joins a fine zari lattice-grid structure, making the Arakku pallu visually denser and more intricate than the spaced-floral body.
Can Idam Living keep the blouse simple beside such an ornate border?
Yes. A simple ivory or deep Arakku blouse can balance the brocade, and custom blouse stitching can be discussed around your preferred neckline and sleeve style. A 0.8 m running blouse piece is included.
Does Silk Mark certification describe the zari as pure gold?
No. Silk Mark concerns the authenticity of the silk, not the precious-metal composition of zari. The gold appearance described here is a visual characteristic of the decorative weaving, not a precious-metal purity claim.
