Ice Blue Tissue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Sona Rupa Gold and Silver Motifs

Ice Blue Tissue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Sona Rupa Gold and Silver Motifs

The colour begins as a cool ice blue, but the tissue weave catches enough gold to make the surface look almost candlelit. Against it, the Arakku red border feels deep and grounded, while the Sona Rupa motifs shift between warm gold and cooler silver points.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven as a Butta Kanjivaram in tissue silk, the body is punctuated by spaced Sona Rupa motifs that alternate gold and silver-toned highlights across the luminous ice-blue field. Tissue is a confirmed secondary character here; the primary product classification remains Butta. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Deep Arakku-red contrast border with layered warm-gold zari and ornate figurative and floral registers.

Pallu: Deep Arakku-red pallu with a dense gold zari lattice and richly framed ornamental bands.

Styling: Let the tissue surface do the work. A plain ice-blue, silver-grey or Arakku blouse will keep the look composed. Choose pearl drops, antique gold or a restrained diamond line, and avoid stacking too many reflective accessories against the already luminous body.

Current Look: Recent festive styling has also leaned into the soft metallic luminosity of tissue silk. Sai Pallavi's late-September 2026 Ramayana Mumbai event look used tissue silk for a restrained shimmer; this is a material and luminosity reference only, not the same design or an endorsement.

Occasion: A natural choice for Deepavali evenings, receptions, winter weddings, temple celebrations and formal cultural dinners.

What makes this a Butta Kanjivaram if the saree is also tissue silk?
Butta is the primary classification because the body is organised around spaced motifs. Tissue silk describes the luminous secondary character of the fabric and does not replace the Butta classification.
What does Sona Rupa refer to on this saree?
Sona Rupa refers here to the use of both gold- and silver-toned motifs across the ice-blue body, creating warm and cool metallic highlights within the same saree.
Why does the ice-blue tissue body look different in changing light?
The tissue surface reflects light more strongly than a quieter silk body, so the pale blue can move from cool and silvery to softly golden depending on daylight, indoor light and angle.
What blouse colours would work with this saree?
Ice blue keeps the look tonal, Arakku red echoes the contrast border, and a restrained silver-grey can pick up the cooler Sona Rupa highlights. Idam Living can also customize blouse stitching after purchase.
What does Silk Mark tell me about this saree?
Silk Mark relates to the authenticity of the silk used in the saree. It does not certify a motif, colour name or styling description.
