Kathiripoo Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chocolate Border

Kathiripoo Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chocolate Border

Kathiripoo violet brings the brilliant shade of the flower into silk, with each tiny gold check flashing as the folds move. Against it rests a bitter-chocolate brown border, deeply patterned with gold, making this a striking study in colour and intricacy.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Zari Kattam body shows a close, symmetrical lattice of fine gold lines over the saturated violet field. Beside the checks, small round Mayil Chakram zari motifs bring a traditional Kanchipuram accent to the contrasting deep brown silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The chocolate-toned border draws its strength from stacked registers: fine rows of gold patterning, pointed edging and a wider brocade band of geometric and flowering designs. The layered composition gives the border a deliberate architectural rhythm.

Pallu: The contrasting dark pallu is heavily ornamented in gold zari with a diamond-shaped grid enclosing small repeating motifs. An additional vertically arranged patterned band brings definition beside the densely worked brocade field.

Styling: Take the kathiripoo violet into an evening look with a chocolate-brown blouse and antique temple jewellery, or introduce a subtle gold blouse for a ceremonial mood. A centre-parted low bun, a small cluster of jasmine and uncomplicated bangles balance the patterned pallu.

Occasions: Consider it for a Diwali evening, a wedding reception, a classical-dance performance or a festive family gathering with rich jewel-toned dressing.

What is the kathiripoo shade in this Zari Kattam saree?
Kathiripoo is a flower-derived Tamil colour name used for violet and purple shades. Here it describes the luminous, saturated flower-violet body, contrasted with a very dark chocolate-brown border.
Is the gold work confined to the border and pallu?
No. The body itself carries an all-over fine gold-zari check, with petite Mayil Chakram accents along the dark contrast silk. The border and pallu then build a denser series of ornamental gold patterns.
What jewellery suits the violet and chocolate contrast?
Antique-gold temple jewellery complements the patterned border, while a single pair of substantial earrings can be enough when the ornate pallu is on display. A plain dark blouse keeps the colour pairing strong.
Could Idam Living design a blouse around the violet instead of the brown?
Yes. Custom blouse stitching is offered separately, and the blouse colour and neckline can be discussed with Idam Living. A plain kathiripoo-violet blouse is one way to emphasize the body rather than the border.
What does the Silk Mark information on this product refer to?
Idam Living is a Silk Mark authorised user, and the listing provides a link to its certificate. Silk Mark relates to the authenticity of silk, not to approval of a particular motif, colour name or border design.
