Forest Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Varisaipet Saree with Manjal Yellow Peacock Border

Forest Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Varisaipet Saree with Manjal Yellow Peacock Border

Deep green like the cool shade beneath a rain-fed neem tree, bordered by the bright turmeric yellow of a festival threshold. The contrast is unmistakably Kanchipuram, yet the green body lets each paired-peacock butta breathe.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Varisaipet gives the border its repeated horizontal order, while the forest-green silk body holds spaced double-peacock zari buttas. Their placement creates points of gold across an otherwise richly saturated, uncluttered field. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The manjal-yellow border interweaves coloured silk-thread bands with glowing zari rows, including peacock and Mayil Kann, the peacock-eye motif. Like sunlight striking foliage, the yellow edge heightens the green without overwhelming it.

Pallu: The bright yellow pallu unfolds into paisley ornament and a diamond-lattice zari grid. The repeated geometry lends a textured ceremonial finish to the strong green-and-yellow colour pairing.

Styling: Wear with a plain forest-green blouse for a long uninterrupted silhouette, or echo the pallu with a turmeric-yellow blouse. Gold bangles and a single pair of jhumkas are sufficient; a neatly fanned pallu gives the yellow lattice its full presence.

Occasions: Well suited to Vijayadashami, Diwali family celebrations, temple gatherings and classical dance or music events.

Frequently bought together

How does Varisaipet appear in this forest-green Kanchipuram?
Varisaipet is the repeated multi-band arrangement along the border. In this saree, the vivid yellow edge alternates silk-thread and zari detailing, giving a carefully ordered frame to the dark green body.
What is the Mayil Kann motif in the yellow border?
Mayil Kann means peacock eye, a familiar Tamil textile motif. Here it appears with peacock designs in the contrasting yellow border, alongside spaced double-peacock buttas on the green body.
Is the yellow pallu as decorative as the border?
The yellow pallu carries paisley detailing within a diamond-like zari lattice. It continues the strong colour contrast of the border, but uses a more continuous geometric arrangement.
Could Idam Living stitch a contrasting yellow blouse?
Custom blouse stitching is available for design requests, including a contrasting yellow option subject to suitable fabric and agreed details. A 0.8 m running blouse piece is included with the saree.
How do I keep this green-and-yellow silk looking its best?
Dry clean only, avoid perfume directly on the fabric or zari, and store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight. Changing the folds occasionally helps protect the silk over time.
