Deep Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Varisaipet Saree with Vadamalli Maanga Border

Deep Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Varisaipet Saree with Vadamalli Maanga Border

Deep violet gives this saree a saturated, almost aubergine depth, while the border turns brighter through Vadamalli magenta and a burnished copper-orange register. The gold zari sits between those colours with enough warmth to make the contrast feel festive rather than sharp.

❖ 16 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, the border is built through multiple ordered bands rather than one continuous register. Petite zari buttas punctuate the deep-violet body, while the layered edge carries the more elaborate textile vocabulary. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Stacked arai maadam and vanki pet lead into a Vadamalli maanga pet register, with a burnished copper-orange band adding another layer of colour. The repeated bands give the Varisaipet border its distinctive architectural rhythm.

Pallu: The pallu is richly worked in a zari grid, layered with maanga, arai maadam, neli and vanki detailing against the Vadamalli-magenta field.

Styling: A Vadamalli blouse will pull the brighter border colour upward, while a copper-orange blouse creates a more unusual festive pairing. Choose antique-gold jewellery, a simple bindi and either jasmine or a neat braided bun. Keep the pallu open so the grid and layered zari registers remain visible.

Occasions: A strong choice for Dussehra, Deepavali, wedding receptions, classical dance programs, Karthigai Deepam and evening cultural gatherings.
