Deep Brown & Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Sona Rupa Buttas
Deep Brown & Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Sona Rupa Buttas
A remarkable depth of colour distinguishes this Kanjivaram. The silk carries a rich plum-brown shade, recalling the deep tones of ripened jamun fruit and the shadowed colours of an old Kanchipuram temple courtyard. Across this beautiful ground, fine gold zari forms an intricate Zari Kattam, creating a luminous grid that gives the dark silk its wonderful warmth and movement.
❖ 16 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

Scattered with exquisite precision across the checked body are petite Sona Rupa buttas, alternating in the contrasting gleam of gold and silver. These little motifs introduce a lovely play of two metallic tones: the warmth of sona against the cooler shimmer of rupa. Each rests delicately within the measured zari squares, bringing remarkable intricacy without overwhelming the composition.
The border is a beautifully rich maroon red, illuminated with ornate gold zari. Traditional peacock motifs take prominence, their graceful forms accompanied by intricately arranged decorative bands. Against the dark checked body, the richness of the border creates a striking, distinctly traditional Kanchipuram effect.
The pallu is a grand continuation of this ornamentation. Beautifully woven peacocks, Yaanai motifs and flowing floral Kodi are arranged among densely worked gold zari patterns. The composition has the richness of carved temple ornament, where foliage and ceremonial animals come together in harmonious repetition.
A saree of beautiful contrasts: deep, velvety colour and delicate metallic light, fine miniature kattams and an elaborately decorated pallu. A Kanjivaram that expresses grandeur through the extraordinary discipline of handweaving.
Styling note: Pair with a matching maroon blouse, antique-gold jewellery or a refined two-tone gold-and-silver jewellery arrangement. Especially elegant for festive evenings, Diwali gatherings and traditional wedding celebrations.
