Deep Paaku Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Vermilion Zari Border

Deep Paaku Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Vermilion Zari Border

Deep Paaku brown carries the quiet depth of polished areca wood, then breaks into vermilion red and warm gold at the edge. The result feels unmistakably vintage Kanchipuram: restrained through the body, richly worked at the Korvai border, and dramatic when the red pallu is opened.

❖ This saree carries 20 days of loom work behind it, handwoven in Kanchipuram by artisan families continuing a generations-old craft.

Woven in the Korvai tradition, the contrasting red border is structurally interlocked with the deep brown body. Small Mayil Chakram buttas punctuate the field, while the broad edge draws on vintage Kanchipuram vocabulary through a thick Banaras pettu register and layered zari work. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A substantial vermilion and gold Korvai border with a broad Banaras pettu register. Annapakshi, paisley, Rudraksham and fine zari-lattice details build the layered, yesteryear character of the edge.

Pallu: The vermilion-red pallu is arranged in long zari registers, combining bird, paisley and geometric detailing over a richly worked field. Its warmer red-orange glow becomes the visual counterpoint to the deep Paaku brown body.

Styling: A vermilion or deep brown blouse keeps this firmly in a vintage Kanjivaram mood. Add antique temple gold, a small red bindi and jasmine or kanakambaram in a low bun. It is especially suited to Diwali, temple ceremonies, wedding muhurthams and traditional family celebrations.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

How is the Korvai construction used in this saree?
The deep Paaku brown body and vermilion border are structurally joined through the Korvai technique, creating a clear contrast at the edge while keeping the saree firmly within the Pure Silk Kanchipuram tradition.
What gives this border its vintage Kanchipuram character?
The broad border combines a thick Banaras pettu register with Annapakshi, paisley, Rudraksham and fine lattice zari vocabulary. The dense layering against deep brown and vermilion gives it the yesteryear character of older ceremonial Kanjivarams.
Where would this deep brown and vermilion saree work best?
Its darker Paaku brown body and warm vermilion border suit temple ceremonies, Diwali gatherings, wedding muhurthams and evening receptions. Antique gold jewellery keeps the palette traditional and lets the zari remain the focus.
What blouse information is included with this saree?
A 0.8 m running blouse piece is included. Please refer to the product images for the blouse piece colour and design. Idam Living also offers Custom Blouse Stitching.
Are small variations in the weave normal?
Yes. A handwoven Kanchipuram saree can show small irregularities in yarn alignment or motif placement. These are natural signs of handloom weaving rather than machine-perfect repetition.
