Deep Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Sorgavaasal Mayil Zari Border

Deep Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Sorgavaasal Mayil Zari Border

Deep Neelam blue sits somewhere between midnight sapphire and royal indigo, becoming brighter wherever the silk catches light. Against it, the closely ordered gold grid reads almost like a fine architectural drawing across the body.

❖ This saree was woven over 16 days on the loom in Kanchipuram, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by weaver families whose craft has been passed down for generations.

The Zari Kattam body is woven with a fine zari-grid structure, bringing a controlled shimmer across the deep blue silk rather than concentrating the gold in isolated motifs. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The border introduces Sorgavaasal Mayil in warm gold zari, their repeating peacock forms giving the fine checked body a stronger traditional frame. A muted copper-orange edge provides a restrained counterpoint to the blue.

Pallu: The pallu becomes opulent through an all-over diamond-lattice zari field, framed with richly ordered ornamental bands. Against the deep Neelam base, the geometry takes on an almost metallic depth.

Styling: Deep blue silk keeps the styling dramatic and tonal. For contrast, draw from the copper edge with a muted rust or burnished-orange blouse. Antique-gold earrings and a clean pleated pallu will emphasise the grid and lattice without crowding them.

Suited to Navratri evenings, Vijayadashami, Diwali, receptions, classical performances, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

What is Zari Kattam?
Zari Kattam is a fine grid woven into the silk using zari. On this saree it covers the deep Neelam body in closely ordered checks that become brighter as the silk moves.
What is special about the border?
Repeated Sorgavaasal Mayil motifs create the main gold-zari register, while the copper-orange edge adds warmth to the deep-blue body.
What makes the pallu especially rich?
A dense diamond-lattice zari field occupies much of the pallu, producing a more concentrated metallic effect than the finer grid on the body.
Can Idam Living design a blouse for this deep-blue saree?
Yes. A tonal deep-blue blouse would be dramatic and refined, while a muted copper or rust blouse can pick up the warmer border edge.
Why can the blue look different depending on the light?
Pure mulberry silk reflects light directionally, so the same Neelam blue can move from almost midnight indigo to a brighter royal blue as the folds shift.
