Deep Kanchana Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Rettapet Saree with Arakku Red Kamalam Zari Border

Deep Kanchana Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Rettapet Saree with Arakku Red Kamalam Zari Border

The deep Kanchana brown body opens into an Arakku red border that immediately warms the saree. Gold mayil and chakram buttas keep the dark field alive, while the lotus-rich edge and striped pallu add a distinctly vintage Kanchipuram rhythm.

❖ 18 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, the contrast border gives the deep Kanchana brown body a strong architectural frame. Alternating mayil and chakram zari buttas are distributed across the dark silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Arakku red Rettapet border with a broad gold zari kamalam band, additional mayil-rich ornament and fine geometric framing.

Pallu: Arakku red pallu with malli moggu zari stripes, a dense gold lattice field and vertically framed ornamental details.

Styling: Wear it with an Arakku blouse for a strong contrast or a deep Kanchana brown blouse for a quieter treatment. Kemp jewellery, antique gold and fresh jasmine bring out the old-Kanchi character without competing with the border.

What does Rettapet mean on this deep brown Kanjipuram saree?
Rettapet creates the strong contrast frame around the body. Here a deep Kanchana brown field is set against Arakku red, with gold zari carrying the transition between the two colours.
Which motifs appear across the body?
The body is dotted with alternating mayil and chakram gold zari buttas, spaced to let the dark silk remain visible.
What is woven into the border?
The Arakku red border carries a broad kamalam band in gold zari, with additional peacock-rich ornament and fine geometric framing.
How is the pallu finished?
The Arakku red pallu is organised with malli moggu zari stripes, a dense gold lattice field and vertically framed ornamental details.
How can I style this saree without making the look too heavy?
Choose a plain Arakku or deep brown blouse and let the border provide the ornament. One strong antique-gold or kemp jewellery piece is enough to complete the look.
