Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Arakku Red Kamalam Zari Border

Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Arakku Red Kamalam Zari Border

Deep Paaku brown silk meets an Arakku red edge in a palette that feels distinctly old Kanchi and deeply ceremonial. The body stays restrained, allowing the alternating gold motifs and the broad lotus-filled border to carry the visual weight.

❖ This saree was woven over 18 days on the loom in Kanchipuram, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by weaver families whose craft has been passed down for generations.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, the saree uses a strongly framed contrast border to give the body a clear architectural edge. Alternating handwoven mayil and chakram zari buttas sit across the deep Paaku brown field. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Arakku red Rettapet border stacked with broad gold zari kamalam medallion bands, fine geometric lines and narrow ornamental registers.

Pallu: Arakku red pallu with malli moggu zari stripes, fine lengthwise registers and a dense gold lattice panel.

Styling: Pair it with an Arakku red or deep brown blouse and antique-gold or kemp jewellery. A low bun with jasmine keeps the look traditional, while a plain raw-silk blouse lets the kamalam border remain the focus.

Well suited to Navratri and Golu gatherings, Vijayadashami, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam, temple programs, winter weddings and other festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

What does Rettapet mean on this Kanchipuram saree?

What motifs are woven across the body?
The body carries alternating mayil and chakram gold zari buttas, spaced so the deep Paaku brown silk remains visible between the motifs.
What makes the border especially distinctive?
The Arakku red border is stacked with large kamalam medallions in gold zari, supported by fine geometric lines and smaller ornamental registers.
How is the pallu designed?
The pallu turns fully into Arakku red and is organised with malli moggu zari stripes, fine lengthwise bands and a denser gold lattice panel.
Can Idam Living stitch a blouse for this saree?
