Deep Arakku Red Butta Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Elephant Zari and Mauve Border

Deep Arakku Red Butta Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Elephant Zari and Mauve Border

The deep, dignified red of arakku, reminiscent of rain-darkened red earth and the glow of a temple lamp. Unexpected silvery mauve and a slender emerald-green finish lend this silk its singular character.

❖ Woven in Kanchipuram over 16 days on the loom, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by artisans who have handed this craft down through generations.

This Kanjipuram's pure mulberry silk body is woven in a classic Butta composition, with small, spaced gold buttas alternating circular and stylised forms across the arakku-red ground. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. Read our story.

Border: A substantial gold-zari band carries ceremonial elephants within architectural ornamental panels. Beneath it lies a softly shining lavender-mauve band, edged with narrow green selvedge and miniature gold ornament, a beautifully layered composition.

Pallu: The contrasting zari-rich end panel reveals silver-gold woven texture and elaborate small motifs, preserving the distinctive mauve-and-green accents of the border.

Styling: A plain arakku blouse is timeless; for a contemporary pairing, use a dusty mauve pure-silk blouse with a fine green piping. Gold temple studs and one sculptural kada are enough. It suits Vijayadashami temple pujas, Diwali dinners, Karthigai Deepam, South Indian wedding rituals and winter community celebrations.
