Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Deep Pink Thogai Mayil Border

Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Deep Pink Thogai Mayil Border

The richness of roasted coffee silk meets the vivid flush of orchid pink, like evening bougainvillea climbing an old Kanchipuram courtyard wall. Fine gold checks enliven the Kaapi Brown field, while the pink border draws the eye to a line of peacocks whose plumes are picked out in luminous zari.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the Kaapi Brown body carries exceptionally fine intersecting gold zari lines, creating a close checked surface that glimmers as the pleats move. Scattered tiny zari buttas punctuate the grid, lending it another layer of detail without crowding the dark silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A roughly three-inch deep orchid-pink border displays Thogai Mayil peacocks with elegant spreading plumage, intertwined with leafy zari scrolls. The lustrous gold figures stand out against the saturated pink ground, and slim ornamental bands keep the border precise.

Pallu: The grand pallu grows richer in deep pink, with an all-over small floral zari jaal arranged in dense repeating registers. Decorative vertical bands and a contrasting section of fine pink silk-and-zari stripes build a striking transition from the coffee-brown checked body.

Styling: A deep orchid-pink blouse brings the border into focus, while a rich coffee-brown blouse gives the saree a quieter, tonal finish. Try antique gold jhumkas and a neat low braid or bun. Let the pink pallu fall long over the shoulder for receptions or festive evening gatherings.

Occasions: Especially suited to Diwali celebrations, cultural performances, evening weddings, receptions and upcoming family festivities.

Frequently bought together

Why does this coffee brown Kanjivaram show such fine gold lines?
The body is woven in Zari Kattam, a fine intersecting zari-grid treatment. On the deep Kaapi Brown silk, the lines create a delicate gleam across the surface, while small gold buttas add spaced points of detail.
What does Thogai Mayil mean on this deep pink border?
Thogai Mayil refers to the peacock and its distinctive plumage. On this saree, peacocks woven in gold zari appear with flowing feather forms and foliage along an approximately three-inch orchid-pink border.
How does the grand pallu differ from the coffee brown body?
The body is dark and finely checked, but the pallu opens into a broad deep pink field filled with dense small floral zari motifs. Patterned vertical registers and fine stripes give the end piece a richer, more ceremonial appearance.
What blouse would suit the coffee brown and deep pink combination?
A deep orchid-pink blouse highlights the contrast border; coffee brown creates a more understated pairing. Idam Living can help with custom blouse-stitching preferences, and the saree includes its standard 0.8 m running blouse piece.
Are slight variations in a handwoven zari grid normal?
Small changes in yarn tension or motif spacing can occur in handloom weaving, and they are distinct from damage. Visible tears, stains or significant defects should not be treated as normal handloom character; contact Idam Living if you notice a quality concern.
