Arakku Crimson and Antique Copper Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree
Arakku Crimson and Antique Copper Handwoven Lightweight Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree
The pure silk body glows in an arakku-crimson red, a meeting of ripe pomegranate skin, rose madder and the ceremonial warmth of Kanchipuram. Small zari buttas are set at intervals over this clear red ground, while fine woven lines give the cloth a soft, living texture.
A broad copper-bronze contrast border worked with old-gold zari medallions and narrow repeating traditional bands, neatly picked out by a deep forest-green selvedge. Copper, arakku and green give it an especially rooted temple-silk character.
The grand traditional Seer pallu is burnished copper and russet with long parallel gold-zari seer stripes and woven traditional pattern bands; the green edging carries through to the end.
Woven by hand in a lighter, fluid pure silk Kanchipuram construction, this saree preserves the expressive traditional handwoven zari vocabulary of Kanchipuram. The lighter feel makes the drape especially wearable while the silk retains its characteristic lustre and poise.
Styling: Pair with a deep copper or bottle-green brocade silk blouse; a long-sleeve blouse with a narrow matching border makes it quietly ceremonial.
Wear it to: Weddings, family pujas, Diwali gatherings, temple events and festive receptions.
