Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Zari Kattam Saree with Elephant Medallion Border
Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Zari Kattam Saree with Elephant Medallion Border
A Carnatic music kutcheri (concert) at a desi sabha in the USA calls for a saree with quiet, radiant elegance. Fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid — the defining structure of the Zari Kattam weave — scattered with small round zari buttas for gentle shimmer. Each saree takes 42 days from dyeing to finishing and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven by our family's artisan weaver families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
The body is woven in a Kerala-inspired leaf green, in pure mulberry silk, with a fine gold zari checkered grid characteristic of the Zari Kattam weave, scattered with small round zari buttas for gentle shimmer. This is a signature pure silk Kanchipuram weave, prized for its structured shimmer.
The contrast maroon border is richly woven with majestic elephant medallions, intricate ornamental zari bands, and traditional geometric detailing, echoing the grandeur of a South Indian temple frieze in gold. The elaborate ceremonial pallu continues the same border motifs in a fuller sweep.
This saree is well-suited to weddings, temple visits, and festive celebrations. Pair with a maroon or gold silk blouse, temple jewellery, and jhumka earrings for a timeless, ceremonial finish.
