Twilight Vadamalli Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Gandaberunda Zari Buttas and Antique Gold Border

Twilight Vadamalli Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Gandaberunda Zari Buttas and Antique Gold Border

Chosen for an 80th birthday Sadabhishekam celebration — a rare and sacred milestone, this handwoven pure silk Kanchipuram saree is built around individually woven zari motifs against an unusually deep purple body. In this Butta composition, repeated individual buttas form the primary body design. Each saree takes approximately 8 to 10 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine. Handcrafted on family looms in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. This Butta saree spends approximately 8 to 10 active days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine.

The pure mulberry silk body is a twilight purple somewhere between Vadamalli blossom, crushed blackberry and deep aubergine. Across it, individual Gandaberunda buttas are handwoven in zari, their compact double-headed bird forms appearing one by one against the uncluttered silk rather than disappearing into an all-over pattern. Explore our pure silk Kanchipuram sarees.

The border moves into espresso-dark silk and becomes considerably richer, illuminated with the mellow glow of antique-gold appearance zari. Broad ornamental bands alternate with fine linear registers, floral work and densely woven decorative forms. The pallu continues the espresso-dark ground with long vertical zari panels and repeated antique-gold ornamental bands, creating a distinctly darker, more architectural finish against the purple body.

Styling: Pair it with a tonal aubergine or espresso-brown raw-silk blouse and keep the jewellery deliberately spare so the Butta weave and Gandaberunda motifs remain visible. Choose one pair of antique-gold earrings, a sleek low bun and an open pallu. Avoid layered necklaces that would compete with the densely worked border.

Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m running blouse piece included. Colour and design are not separately confirmed from the supplied product photographs. See our Blouse Stitching Guide.
