Woven in the Kanchi Kattam tradition, this saree reveals Sun-warmed manjal or turmeric-yellow pure silk laid out in pronounced silk-thread checks, with olive leaf-green, soft charcoal-grey and fine rose-pink intersecting lines. The contrasting checks evoke the many-coloured geometry of an old Kanchipuram courtyard. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 28 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Deep kathiripoo-purple silk anchors broad gold-zari bands. Repeated vanki or chevron zari lines define the registers, while thicker, closely worked brocade-style ornamental bands bring a Banarasi-inspired density to the traditional Kanchi border.

Pallu: A grand purple-framed, gold-dominant pallu carrying closely repeated diagonal chevrons and narrow geometric zari lines. Its finely packed gold surface contrasts with the airy multicolour check rhythm of the body.

Styling: A deep aubergine-purple blouse with slim full sleeves and gold piping will sharpen the contrast. For a contemporary look choose a turmeric silk blouse with a broad purple cuff. Wear matte-gold earrings, a neat centre-parted bun and a shoulder-fold that displays the chevron zari.
